The Traxx Mobility Systems Titan 500 Freestanding Overhead Patient Lift
The Titan 500 is simple to operate and even easier to maintain. A single caregiver can operate the unit and effortlessly lift and transfer a patient in just five minutes. It has been designed to be shipped directly to the home and be easily assembled by two adults in only thirty minutes. The overhead lift reduces the physical strain on the caregiver with a simple rolling transfer. It is also offers a more comfortable transfer experience for the patient. Our affordable and uncomplicated system can help keep your loved one home longer, without relying on skilled nursing care.

The modular design and shipping of the lift allows it to be quickly assembled. The two support arms come pre-assembled and ready to receive the overhead beam. Attach one end of the overhead beam to the first support arm with two bolts. Slide the motor into the overhead beam trolley channel and attach the second support arm with another two bolts. Finally, raise the frame to working height and insert two bolts to secure. Ensure your batteries are fully charged and your lift is ready to work. Avoid operating the motor until it has been installed into the frame. If operating the motor without the lift bar attached, maintain some tension on the belt at all times.
The rechargeable electric motor is operated by a small, low-voltage wired remote control unit. The single rocker button allows for simple operation in either direction. The lift belt is attached to the four-point lift bar by means of a swivel snap shackle. The lift bar accepts the sling straps and helps spread out the sling for a more comfortable transfer.

It is important that the lift belt remains straight as it runs in and out of the motor housing during the lift. Avoid any folding or twisting of the belt as it enters the motor housing. Take time during the lift to monitor the belt travel into the housing to protect the belt. The lift belt material and swivel action of the shackle allows the patient to be twisted or turned during the transfer process across the beam, not during lifting.
The motor unit is supplied with several safety features. A prominent emergency fuse holder works as a universal kill switch and will stop the motor from functioning in any direction. The belt and motor are equipped with a belt travel limit system which keeps the belt operating within safe limits. The belt will unspool to lift a patient from the floor and up to the full working height of three feet. A safety stop block at the end of the lift belt acts as a secondary safety feature. The stop block would activate the up-direction kill switch located on the motor housing, where the belt enters the motor housing. During normal operation of the belt travel limit system, the belt will automatically stop before the safety stop block activates the kill switch. Finally, each Titan 500 is supplied with an electrical emergency down remote. This small black box contains a nine volt battery which can provide enough power to lower the motor should operation cease with a patient in the lift.

The average patient (180lbs.) should be able to be lifted and transferred over 50 times in one complete battery charge. Battery charge level is directly related to the number of lifts and the patient’s weight. The heavier the patient is, and the more transfers completed, the more battery capacity is used. We recommend the battery be kept fully charged at all times, at least once a week with the average patient. We recommend picking one day a week and let it charge overnight. The battery charger uses a color coded indicator to let you know when the charge is complete. Always remove the charger before using the lift.
For correct operation, the overhead beam and motor unit should be positioned over the patient’s center of gravity, typically at waist level. Align the frame so patient does not swing or drag when the lift begins. The belt must travel straight into the motor housing.
The size and weight designations for Traxx slings are merely estimates and basic guidelines. A proper fit will depend on factors other than weight measurements, including the height and girth of a patient. It is important that no portion of the patient overlap the sides of the sling. Proper placement of the sling is very important for a safe and comfortable transfer. The base of the sling should be positioned two inches below the tailbone and the top of the sling should be parallel with the top of the shoulder line at the base of the neck. The slings are machine washable in warm water with non-chlorine detergent. Tumble dry on low heat or hang dry.

Be sure to inspect all the parts of the lift for any wear and tear. Be sure that all users of the lift are instructed in proper use of the lift and all accessories, especially the safety features. Never leave a patient unattended during a lift or transfer.
The Titan 500 can be moved when fully assembled but never while the patient is in the lift. The frame can be dropped to its transport height which allows for passage through most doors. We recommend that two people move and adjust the lift. Locking rotating castors are an available option and will lock in both the rolling and rotating directions. Do not lock the castors during a lift. They allow the frame to adjust during a lift if necessary.
Finally, retain possession of all packaging, if possible, should you wish to move or store the lift. The support frame can be completely taken apart or broken down to its modular shipping setup for storage or transport. The packaging is designed for efficient shipping while protecting the support frame from nicks and scratches. Battery charge should be maintained for units in storage. We recommend charging it monthly if stored for any period of time without use.
